Keynote- Peter Mutabazi:

Peter Mutabazi is the founder of Now I Am Known, an organization that supplies resources to support vulnerable children. Peter has become dad to countless foster children and his own adopted kids. Peter is also the author of the book Now I Am Known.  He has appeared on international media outlets and is a passionate speaker who resides in North Carolina.

Breakout Sessions 1

  • Creating a Development Plan That Works for Your Small Nonprofit (Geared towards Board Members, Executive Directors and Fundraising Staff) : Designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to develop an effective fundraising strategy tailored to the unique needs of small nonprofits. The training will be interactive, featuring practical advice, real-life examples, and actionable steps.

  • Self-Care for Caretakers: This session will focus on identifying the “cost of caring” as well as how to engage in compassionate self-care.

  • Drug Endangered Children: Marathon County Social Workers provide an overview of the intersection of CPS and drug trends within our own community. When children are living in a drug environment or have been exposed to substances, they require additional attention and services to ensure for their wellbeing. This session focuses on identification of Drug Endangered Children and the importance of a multidisciplinary response to child safety.

Breakout Sessions 2

  • Learn about Families First Legislation (Geared towards Board Members and CASA Staff): The Department of Children and Families, in collaboration with system partners across the state, is working to transform the child welfare system. Join Division of Safety and Permanence Administrator John Elliott and Policy Initiatives Advisor Angi Krueger to learn more about the Putting Families First transformation, how Putting Families First supports thriving families and communities, and the role CASA programs play as crucial partners in this work. 

  • Introduction to Trust-Based Relational Intervention® :Trust-based Relational Intervention : Trust-based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) is a trauma-informed intervention designed to increase felt-safety, self-worth, and voice in children and adults from hard places (victims and survivors of maltreatment).  TBRI® uses the Empowering Principles to recognize and meet physiological and sensory needs, the Connecting Principles to meet attachment and emotional needs, and the Correcting Principles to model, guide, and teach children and teens healthy social-emotional behavior, resilience, empathy, and respect.

  • Learn about the Fostering Futures Program: The Fostering Futures program’s goal is to help youth 11-18 who have experienced abuse and/or neglect as they prepare to transition to independent adulthood.  Hear about how this program started, how to implement it in your county and their challenges and successes have been.
