CASA Advocates

CASA volunteer advocates help change a child’s story that has experienced abuse and/or neglect who are under court protection.

Volunteers:

  • Spend regular, quality time getting to know their assigned child.

  • Are supported and supervised by CASA team members and work alongside everyone involved in the case.

  • Write monthly objective court reports on the child’s safety and well-being to help the judge make important decisions on the child’s future.

  • Acts as a consistent adult for a child while under court protection throughout all the child’s transitions.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 21 years or older.

  2. Must pass all screening procedures including: information session, written application with personal/professional references, personal interview, and review of applicant’s criminal, traffic and child protection records.

  3. Must have sufficient time available to complete initial training and then commit to completion of the assigned case. (Cases length and time per month average depending on case and CASA program.)

Start a Local Program

Wisconsin CASA is always looking to expand and grow the the network of CASA programs throughout the state so one day we can serve children in all 72 counties.

If you do not see your county listed above and would like to have a conversation about starting a CASA program in your area, please contact us here.

The Wisconsin CASA Association and its member agencies will work with communities wishing to launch a new CASA program. This is done by bringing together the interest of local judges, committed community leaders and securing the financial resources that can effectively sustain a new program.

Judge Elaine Smith, Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe

“Advocates are the one constant in a child’s life during the time they are involved in a Minor in Need of Care case. Being removed from one’s home is especially traumatizing for a child and CASA often fills the void when a friendly face is needed. My job as the Tribal Judge would be so much more gratifying if I had access to a well written CASA report as it offers another view into the child’s life while placed out of the home. As a former CASA in Texas, it was my honor to serve the children and to know that my voice was important to the Judge.”
